Tutoring and Mentoring in a Multicultural Society Department
In this sophomore-level course, students develop strategies to help K-12 students from diverse populations and urban communities improve and/or gain effective learning strategies and positive attitudes about themselves. Secondary education majors mentor students in an alternative high school program designed for those at risk of dropping out. Elementary/special education majors serve as tutors for Books Open Life's Doors, a literacy program that provides tutorial assistance to elementary students who need support in reading and language arts. Students develop collaborative relationships with practicing teachers in order to support learning.
