Adopt-a-Spot maintenance days

Help care for our Adopt-a-Spot garden in Eisenhower Park by watering and weeding the flowerbeds. The park is in Washington Square, a quick trolley ride away from Salve Regina. Maintenance takes place from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, and members of the University community are encouraged to consider supporting this initiative on a regular basis.

Wednesday, April 26: Prom Dress Drive

Volunteers are needed from 2-6 p.m. to help sort prom dresses at Rogers High School in Newport.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 1:45 p.m., return at 6 p.m.

Saturday, April 29: Rebuilding Together Greater Newport

Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to noon for the annual Rebuilding Together Greater Newport event.
Transportation: All details are TBD.

Saturday, April 29: Prom Dress Drive

Volunteers are needed from 5-6 p.m. to help organize prom dresses.
Transportation: This service site is on the trolley line at 73 Pelham St. in Newport.

Monday, May 8 through Friday, May 12: End of Year Drive

Volunteers are needed in Wakehurst to collect and sort donations for the End of Year Drive. Volunteers may sign up in shifts: 10 a.m. to noon and/or 1-3 p.m. On Friday, May 12, math-savvy volunteers are also needed to check out customers at the presale event.
Transportation: Not available for this on-campus event

Saturday, May 13: End of Year Drive

Volunteers are needed in Wakehurst to help with the End of Year Drive. Shifts are 6-8 a.m. (setup), 8-10 a.m. (checkout), 10 a.m. to noon (checkout) and noon to 2 p.m.
Transportation; Not available for this on-campus event.

Monday, May 15: Adopt-a-Spot

Volunteers are needed from noon to 2 p.m. to help maintain the Adopt-a-Spot location in Eisenhower Park as part of the Senior Day of Service.

Past Service Opportunities From the Spring 2017 Semester

  • Monday, Jan. 16: God's Community Garden: Volunteers are needed from noon to 3 p.m. for the first MLK Day of Service. Volunteers will be harvesting the gardens.
  • Wednesday, Jan. 25: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center: Volunteers are needed from 4:30-7 p.m. to assist with setup, arts and crafts, and cleanup for family dinner night at the center.
  • Saturday, Feb. 4: Clean Ocean Access. Volunteers are needed from noon to 2 p.m. to help Clean Ocean Access with a cleanup at Sachuest (Second) Beach.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 7: Emmanuel Church soup kitchen. Volunteers are needed from 4:30-6:30 p.m. to set up, work and clean up the soup kitchen.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 14: Lucy's Hearth. "Crafty" volunteers are needed from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in Wakehurst, Room 201 to make fleece tie blankets and cupcake onesies for Lucy's Hearth. Volunteers will help assemble both gifts into packages.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 14: St. Paul's Warm Up. Volunteers are needed from 6-7:30pm in the Mercy Center Kitchen to make sweet treats for St. Paul’s Church Warm up Wednesday program. All baking supplies will be provided.
  • Saturday, March 4: Clean Ocean Access. Volunteers are needed from noon to 2 p.m. to help Clean Ocean Access with a cleanup at Brenton Point.
  • Saturday, March 4: Salvation Army choir concert. Volunteers are needed from 5:30-7:30 p.m. to help set up, greet and usher the event.
  • Tuesday, March 7: Emmanuel Church soup kitchen. Volunteers are needed from 4:30-6:30 p.m. to set up, work and clean up the soup kitchen
  • Wednesday, March 22: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center. Volunteers are needed from 4:30-7 p.m. to help with setup, arts and crafts, and cleanup for a family dinner night at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center.
  • Tuesday, April 4: Emmanuel Church soup kitchen. Volunteers are needed from 4:30-6:30 p.m. to set up, work and clean up the soup kitchen.
  • Saturday, April 22: Clean Ocean Access. Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. to help Clean Ocean Access with this Earth Day cleanup on the Cliff Walk.
