Adopt-a-Spot maintenance days

Help care for our Adopt-a-Spot garden in Eisenhower Park by watering and weeding the flowerbeds. The park is in Washington Square, a quick trolley ride away from Salve Regina. Maintenance takes place from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, and members of the University community are encouraged to consider supporting this initiative on a regular basis. Maintenance will resume in March 2016.

Saturday, April 30: Rebuilding Together Greater Newport

Volunteers are needed at the Community Baptist Church from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to help prep for the annual Rebuilding Together Greater Newport event.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 9:45 a.m., return at 1 p.m.

Sunday, May 1: Salvation Army soup kitchen

Volunteers are needed from 3:30-5:30 p.m. to help cook, serve and clean up at the Salvation Army's soup kitchen.

Monday, May 2 through Friday, May 6: End of Year Drive

Volunteers are needed in Wakehurst to collect and sort donations for the End of Year Drive. Volunteers may sign up in shifts: 10 a.m. to noon and/or 1-3 p.m. On Friday, May 6, math-savvy volunteers are also needed to check out customers.
Transportation: Not available for this on-campus event.
Volunteer cap: 4 for collecting, 4 for sorting, 2 for checkout

Saturday, May 7: End of Year Drive

Volunteers are needed in Wakehurst to help with the End of Year Drive. Shifts are 6-8 a.m. (setup), 8-10 a.m. (checkout), 10 a.m. to noon (checkout) and noon to 2 p.m. (cleanup).
Transportation: Not available for this on-campus event.
Volunteer cap: 8 for setup, 4 for checkout, 8 for cleanup

Volunteers are needed from noon to 2 p.m. to help beautify the gardens at Mumford Manor as part of the Senior Day of Service.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 11:45 a.m., return at 2 p.m.

Saturday, May 15: Birds and Breakfast

Volunteers are needed from 7-11 a.m. to help the Norman Bird Sanctuary with a buffet breakfast that will also feature birding walks and children’s activities. Duties will include serving food and helping to clean up.

Friday, May 20: Bike to Work Day

Bike to Work Day is an annual event that promotes bicycling for daily transportation. Volunteers are needed to set up and break down the commuter breakfast in Washington Square, staff food and information tables, recruit friends and community members to join the afternoon group ride and more.

Wednesday, Feb. 3: Cluny School Science Fair

Volunteers are needed from 9:30-10 a.m. to judge the science fair competition at the Cluny School.

Saturday, Feb. 6: Clean Ocean Access

Volunteers are needed from noon to 2 p.m. to assist Clean Ocean Access with a beach cleanup.

Tuesday, Feb. 9: Warm Up Wednesday

Volunteers are needed from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Mercy Center for Spiritual Life to make sweet treats for St. Paul’s Church’s Warm up Wednesday program. All baking supplies will be provided.

Friday, Feb. 12: Share the Love

Volunteers are needed from noon to 3 p.m. in the Miley Hall lobby to make various dog toys for the Potter League for Animals and flower arrangements for Newport Hospital.

Tuesday, Feb. 23: Blood Drive Information Table

Volunteers are needed from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Miley Hall lobby to staff an information table for the Rhode Island Blood Center's blood drive.

Tuesday, Feb. 23 and Wednesday, Feb. 24: Blood Drive

Volunteers are needed between noon and 6 p.m. to help with the Rhode Island Blood Center's bloodmobile. Volunteers may sign up for two-hour shifts: Noon to 2 p.m., 2-4 p.m. or 4-6 p.m. Tuesday's blood drive will be held in the Rodgers Recreation Center and Wednesday's blood drive will be held in Ochre Court.

Thursday, March 3: Bike Newport Night

Volunteers are needed from 6-9 p.m. to help greet guests and distribute silent auction items during the fifth annual Bike Newport Night at Midtown Oyster Bar. Volunteers must be 21 or older.

Saturday, March 5: Brenton Point Cleanup

Volunteers are needed from noon to 2 p.m. to assist Clean Ocean Access with a beach cleanup at Brenton Point State Park.
