Adopt-a-Spot maintenance days

Help care for our Adopt-a-Spot garden in Eisenhower Park by watering and weeding the flowerbeds. The park is in Washington Square, a quick trolley ride away from Salve Regina. Maintenance takes place from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, and members of the University community are encouraged to consider supporting this initiative on a regular basis.

Sunday, Sept. 18: Clean Ocean Access

Volunteers are needed from 7-10 a.m. to check swimmers in and out at the start and finish lines. Volunteers are also needed from 8-10 a.m. to help with water safety using a kayak or stand-up paddleboard.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 6:40 a.m., return at 10 a.m.

Saturday, Sept. 24: Alumni Day of Service

Current students are invited to volunteer alongside alumni, families and friends during the second annual Alumni Day of Service. Participants will volunteer from 10-11:30 a.m. at God's Community Gardens (formerly known as Methodist Community Gardens), located at 200 Turner Road in Middletown.
Transportation: Not provided.

Sunday, Sept. 25: Cluny School Country Fair

Volunteers are needed from noon to 4 p.m. to run small games and activities.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 11:45 a.m., return at 4 p.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 27 and Wednesday, Sept. 28: Bloodmobile

Volunteers are needed from noon to 6 p.m. to help with the Rhode Island Blood Center's blood drive at the Rodgers Recreation Center. Two-hour shifts are available. Time slots are noon to 2 p.m., 2-4 p.m. and 4-6 p.m.
Transportation: Not available for this on-campus event.

Saturday, Oct. 1: Norman Bird Sanctuary Harvest Fair

Volunteers are needed from noon to 5 p.m. to help with various children’s games and arts and crafts at the Norman Bird Sanctuary’s annual Harvest Fair.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 11:45 a.m., return at 5 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 2: Newport Marathon

Volunteers are needed from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help with dune protection and recycling for the Newport Marathon at Easton’s (First) Beach. Three- and four-hour shifts are available. Time slots are 5-8 a.m., 8-11 a.m., 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and noon to 3 p.m.
Transportation: Not provided, as this event is in walking distance from campus.

Tuesday, Oct. 4: Emmanuel Church Soup Kitchen

Volunteers are needed from 4:30-6:30 p.m. to set up, work and clean up the soup kitchen.
Transportation: This site is located on the trolley line.

Friday, Oct. 7: Trinity Church Pumpkin Patch

Volunteers are needed from 5-8 p.m. to unload pumpkins from various trucks at Trinity Church in Newport.
Transportation: This site is located on the trolley line.

Thursday, Oct. 13 and Friday, Oct. 14: Daffy Days

Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Wakehurst lawn to pack 45,000 daffodil bulbs in "Let's Get Daffy" bags, which will be given to Newport residents and businesses to plant throughout the city this fall.
Transportation: Not available for this on-campus event.

Friday, Oct. 28 and Saturday, Oct. 29: Fort Adams Fortress of Nightmare

  • Scaring: Volunteers should arrive at 5 p.m. Duties include scaring customers at an assigned located in the fort.
  • Security (must be 21): Volunteers should arrive at 5 p.m. Duties include patrolling fort grounds and assisting with crowd management.
  • Box office: Volunteers should arrive at 5 p.m. Duties include scanning tickets with a barcode scanner and laptop.
  • Volunteer care: Volunteers should arrive at 5 p.m. Duties include keeping the volunteer area stocked with snacks and drinks, organizing the costume area and assisting with check-in/out.
  • Nightly ops crew: Volunteers should arrive at 6 p.m. Duties include completing a nightly checklist to open and close the attractions around the fort.

Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall 4:40 p.m., return at 10 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 29: City of Newport Fall Recycling Day

Volunteers are needed from 8 a.m. to noon at Easton’s (First) Beach to set up the event, help traffic flow, greet residents and break down the event.

Saturday, Nov. 5: Aquidneck Land Trust Race for Open Space

Volunteers are needed from 9:15-11:30 a.m. to help with the Aquidneck Land Trust's Race for Open Space. Duties include race registration, helping at street crossings along the race course and spotting/directing runners along the race course.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall 9 a.m., return at 11:30 a.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 8: St. Paul’s Church Warm up Wednesday

Volunteers are needed from 6-8 p.m. at the Mercy Center to bake sweet treats for St. Paul's Church's Warm Up Wednesday program.

Monday, Nov. 28 and Tuesday, Nov. 29: Salvation Army bell ringing
