Adopt-a-Spot maintenance days

Help care for our Adopt-a-Spot garden in Eisenhower Park by watering and weeding the flowerbeds. The park is in Washington Square, a quick trolley ride away from Salve Regina. Maintenance takes place from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, and members of the University community are encouraged to consider supporting this initiative on a regular basis. Maintenance will resume in March 2016.

Saturday, Feb. 6: Sachuest Beach Cleanup

Volunteers are needed from noon to 2 p.m. to assist Clean Ocean Access with a beach cleanup at Sachuest (Second) Beach.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 11:30 a.m., return at 2 p.m.

Tuesday, Feb. 9: Warm Up Wednesday (full)

Volunteers are needed from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Mercy Center kitchen to make sweet treats for St. Paul’s Church’s Warm Up Wednesday program. All baking supplies will be provided.

Friday, Feb. 12: Share the Love

Volunteers are needed from noon to 3 p.m. to make dog toys for the Potter League for Animals in Wakehurst and flower arrangements for Newport Hospital in the Miley Hall lobby.

Saturday, Feb. 20: Ballard Park Illuminated Garden

Ballard Park's annual Illuminated Garden features light displays and sculptures set up in the park's quarry meadow. Volunteers are needed from 4-10 p.m. to set up luminaries, greet tour-goers, hand out programs and break down the event. Volunteers should dress warmly and bring extra layers.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 3:45 p.m., return at 10 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 24: Blood Drive Information Table

Volunteers are needed from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Miley Hall lobby to staff an information table for the Rhode Island Blood Center's blood drive.

Volunteers are needed from noon to 2 p.m. to assist Clean Ocean Access with a beach cleanup at Brenton Point State Park.

Volunteers are needed to help prep for the annual Rebuilding Together Greater Newport event. All details are TBD.

Volunteers are needed from noon to 2 p.m. to assist Clean Ocean Access with a beach cleanup at Fort Adams State Park.

Friday, April 29: Rebuilding Together Greater Newport

Volunteers are needed to help prep for the annual Rebuilding Together Greater Newport event. All details are TBD.

Saturday, May 15: Birds and Breakfast

Volunteers are needed from 7-11 a.m. to help the Norman Bird Sanctuary with a buffet breakfast that will also feature birding walks and children’s activities. Duties will include serving food and helping to clean up.
Transportation: Not provided.

Friday, May 20: Bike to Work Day

Bike to Work Day is an annual event that promotes bicycling for daily transportation. Volunteers are needed to set up and break down the commuter breakfast in Washington Square, staff food and information tables, recruit friends and community members to join the afternoon group ride and more.
Transportation: This service site is on the trolley line.
