Oct. 22: Newport Hospital

Volunteers are needed Wednesday, Oct. 22 to make cards and flower bouquets for patients.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 12:45 p.m., return at 3 p.m.

Oct. 23: Non-Perishable Food Collection

Volunteers are need Thursday, Oct. 23 to collect non-perishable food donations from residence halls and off-campus houses. Volunteers will visit residence halls from 1-3 p.m. and off-campus houses from 5-8 p.m.
Transportation: Not available for this on-campus event. Students should meet in Wakehurst, Room 201.

Oct. 23: Pell Bridge Run

Volunteers are needed Thursday, Oct. 23 to stuff goodie bags for the Pell Bridge Run. All volunteers will receive a free registration for the Oct. 26 run. This volunteer opportunity will take place at the Newport Visitors Center (Gateway) from 2-5 p.m.
Transportation: This service site is on the trolley line. Volunteers should consult the trolley schedule.

Oct. 24: Non-Perishable Food Distribution

Volunteers are needed from 2-4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24 to help distribute non-perishable food items to local agencies. 
Transportation: Not available for this on-campus event. Students should meet in Wakehurst, Room 201.

Oct. 24-25: Fortress of Nightmares

Volunteer opportunities for Fort Adams’ Fortress of Nightmares include:

  • Scaring – Will be assigned a location in the fort to scare customers
  • Security – Patrol fort grounds and assist with crowd management (must be 21-plus)
  • Box office – Scan tickets with barcode scanner and laptop
  • Volunteer care – Keep volunteer area stocked with snacks and drinks, organize costume area and assist with check-in/out process
  • Nightly ops crew – Complete a nightly checklist to open and close the attractions around the fort

​Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 4:30 p.m., return at 10 p.m.

Nov. 1: Recycling event

Volunteers are needed for the City of Newport's "Bye Bye Bins and Barrels" recycling event. This is a one-day event for residents to recycle old recycling bins and trash barrels. Volunteers are needed to help direct traffic, greet cars and whatever else comes up during the event.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 7:20 a.m., return at noon.
Volunteer cap: 12

Nov. 16: McKinney Shelter

Volunteers are needed Sunday, Nov. 16 to prepare a meal at the Mercy Center for Spiritual Life and serve it at the McKinney Shelter in downtown Newport. Transportation and all cooking supplies will be provided. This service opportunity will run from 2:30-6 p.m.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided.

Nov. 18: St. Paul's Church

Volunteers are needed Tuesday, Nov. 18 to bake desserts for the Warm Up Wednesday program sponsored by St. Paul's Church. Volunteers will meet in the Mercy Center for Spiritual Life from 6-8 p.m. All supplies will be provided.
Transportation: Not available for this on-campus event.
