Pre-Arrival Guide

Congratulations on your admission to Salve Regina. The Office of International Programs is here to help you with any questions or concerns you may have about your visa and immigration matters, the University, adjusting to a new community or anything you want to know.

Below are some action items to complete before you leave home.

General Checklist

Document Checklist

  • Passport with visa (most students have an F-1 or J-1 visa).
  • Salve Regina I-20 (F-1 students) or DS-2019 (J-1 students). If you do not have F or J status, bring documents that confirm your immigration status.
  • TOEFL or IELTS scores, SAT, ACT, GRE or GMAT scores and original transcripts in English from previous schools as applicable.
  • Proof of financial support and SEVIS fee receipt if appropriate.
  • If necessary, bring an international driver's license and English translations of marriage and birth certificates.

Health Services Checklist

  • Send in health history/physical/immunization form by the due date to the address on the form.
  • Optional: Make arrangements to get meningococcal, Hepatitis B, varicella, DTaP and/or HPV immunizations before coming to campus. Bring or send copy of updated immunization records to Salve Regina.
  • Enroll in the insurance plans by Aug. 1. Review both the accident and health policies that you will receive in the mail.
  • Put together a basic health care kit to take to school. See suggested list at the Mayo Clinic Website.
  • Make copies of prescriptions (medications, eye glasses/contacts) to bring with you.
  • Bring a month's supply and a doctor's prescription for any medication that you take regularly.
  • If applicable, find health care providers in the area that will provide care for special health care needs (allergy shots, mental health, physical therapy, etc.).
  • Make a dental appointment to have teeth cleaned one more time at home. These are not covered by medical insurance and are very expensive in the U.S.; the cost will probably be far less in your country. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, bring an extra pair in case of loss or accidental breakage.
