About the Program
Salve Regina University's interest in providing education in the
area of the administration of justice has been defined by structuring
the Justice and Homeland Security program. This program is designed
to respond more directly to the interests, knowledge requirements
and needs of professionals in the field of law enforcement and
justice at the local, regional, state and international levels.
Professionals in this field require an education that prepares
them for global challenges that impact justice and homeland security
at home and abroad. Our program includes attention to counterterrorism
training in such areas as information technology, terrorist groups,
domestic terrorism and financial investigative techniques. To
support this effort, practical problems will be discussed with
emphasis on enhanced cooperation with law enforcement both at
the federal and local levels.
The Master of Arts in International Relations: Concentration
in Justice and Homeland Security program provides the knowledge
and skills required for a multicultural and global perspective,
as well as a strong theoretical base for critical thinking. Professionals
in the administration of justice need to increase their ability
to respond to monitoring homeland security issues with an appreciation
of justice concerns.
This program is structured to offer flexibility in scheduling
allowing students to take some courses on campus and some online.
This combination of learning opportunities allows the student
to study on a schedule that fits the various time demands on administration
of justice professionals. In addition, some courses are scheduled
for weekend and week-long formats.
For those who have not yet made a decision for graduate study
leading to a master's degree, a 12-credit (four courses) graduate
certificate program has been developed that allows students to
begin graduate studies and finish with a graduate certificate
if that is their goal. If the student decides to continue with
graduate studies, the four certificate courses also may be applied
toward the completion of the Master of Arts degree.
Salve Regina University takes pride in its long-standing recognition
that professional education needs to include opportunities for
the integration of skills, knowledge and values. Courses and assignments
are developed to provide challenges to reflect upon learning activities
to assist the student in achieving his/her professional goals.
