A degree in philosophy is a humanities degree that
represents a challenging and exciting encounter with the questions and topics
of human living that have engaged some of the world's greatest minds.
Philosophy majors explore the greatest and more fundamental ideas in the
shaping of their own world view.
Philosophy engages students in analytical thinking, logic
and advocacy, but habits of speculation are important and philosophical minds
are also good at thinking creatively and unconventionally. Given the level of
philosophical studies, students become good writers and communicators. As
philosophy is a basis of secular ethics, students are urged to confront ethical
questions and personal responsibility.
