Minor in Dance

The minor in dance allows students to further their knowledge and understanding of dance as a creative art form and study the many facets of dance, including theory, criticism, history, technique, body mechanics, injury prevention and composition. Students are encouraged to cultivate their strengths and find a unique artistic voice in preparation for future careers as dance educators, performers and choreographers.

Students completing a minor in dance take a minimum of 10 courses (18 credits).

Required courses:
  • Dance History
  • Kinesiology for Dancers, Actors, Athletes
  • Choreography
  • Six of the following (repeatable): Modern Dance Technique, Jazz Dance Technique, Ballet Technique, Tap Dance or Dance for the Musical Theatre

Students choose one course from the following list of electives:

  • Introduction to Music: Masterpieces
  • American Music
  • Introduction to Acting and Improvisation
  • The History and Use of Costume on the Stage
  • Stagecraft
  • Theatre Management
