Major in Early Childhood Education (B.S.)

Students majoring in early childhood education take a minimum of 24 courses (71 credits).

Required courses:

  • Principles of Learning/Teaching
  • Tutoring and Mentoring in a Multicultural Society I and II
  • Methods Portfolio
  • Nutrition/Health
  • Language and Literacy
  • Early Childhood Methods and Curriculum
  • Authentic Assessment
  • Practicum in Early Childhood
  • Parents/Teachers/Community
  • Student Teaching at the Early Childhood Level
  • Student Teaching Seminar
  • Senior Seminar

Students also complete the following courses in other disciplines:

  • Children's Literature
  • Introduction to the Characteristics of Students with Exceptionalities
  • Language Development and Communication Problems of Children
  • Principles and Procedures for Behavior and Classroom Management
  • Working with Young Children with Language and Literacy Challenges
  • Curriculum and Methodology for Young Children with Special Needs
  • Sign Language I

Students are strongly encouraged to complete Human Biology: Physiology and Health and Survey of American History as part of their Core Curriculum coursework.
