We're happy to promote your job and internship opportunities to Salve students through our online database Handshake. Our students search and apply for positions directly through the Handshake system.
Through Handshake, employers can:
- Post and manage job and internship listings
- Connect with Salve students
- Narrow down potential hires to the best fit with advanced filtering options
- Request on-campus interviews, information sessions and other recruiting events
All job and internship postings are subject to approval. We reserve the right to determine suitability for approval in Handshake. Please contact us at (401) 341-2913 or career@salve.edu with any questions.
To create your Handshake account:
- Visit Handshake to create your profile. During registration, if your organization does not already have an employer account, you'll need to create one.
- It's important that both your personal and employer accounts are detailed, giving students a clear description of your organization.
- Use Handshake's employer support articles to learn how to best utilize the platform.
To post a job/internship opportunity:
- Log in to your Handshake account.
- Click "Post a Job" at the top of the page or "Job" in the left navigation under "Postings," then click "Create Job" in the upper right corner.
- Complete the fields with as much detail as possible. The details you provide help Handshake display your opportunity to the right audience.
- You can distribute the job posting to one or more universities using the "Schools" tab. Select Salve in the "Choose a School" drop-down to post the job for our students.
Post criteria and approval:
We have created these policies for approving jobs and internships:
- All employers must register their company and maintain their own postings through the Handshake system.
- Job descriptions must be detailed, clear and comprehensive.
- Postings must be tied to a disclosed company or organization with an active website and company email address (no personal email addresses will be permitted).
- Positions that charge program fees to students will not be approved.
- Commission-only postings or postings from third-party recruiters will not be approved.
Internships
We welcome both paid and unpaid internship opportunities but reserve the right to determine suitability for academic credit. We follow the criteria for internship programs under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Internships that do not require the pursuit of a bachelor's degree and/or do not provide a learning environment will not be approved. If you're interested in hosting an intern and need assistance developing a position description, please contact us.
Domestic positions
Positions performed in private homes are no longer accepted. This includes internships, babysitters, nannies, tutors, elder care, pet care, yard care, etc. This is a precaution not only for the safety of our students, but also for the community members we serve. We encourage families to use Care.com, as this is where our students are directed to find such work.
Overseas organizations/positions
Positions and organizations that are not based in the United States will not be approved. This is a precaution for the safety of our students.
