What's My Why?

My research focuses on the role of photography in shaping society, whether it be how we view historical events, what biases we hold, or what family memories we keep. I incorporate media literacy into all of my courses, and encourage students to understand not only how images are made, but why and for what purpose.

Professional Experience

Prior to my role as a professor at Salve, I worked as a graphic designer, a visual resources specialist in higher education, and as a portrait and wedding photographer. I also attended the photojournalism program at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in Portland, Maine in 2007, and served as chair of the Northeast Chapter of the Society for Photographic Education.
