What's My Why?

My courses are rooted in philosophical texts, both classical (for example, Plato’s dialogues, Augustine’s confessions, Descartes’ meditations and many more) and contemporary (for example, 20th century phenomenological texts by Edith Stein and Max Scheler, 21st century philosophy of mind texts and many more). My classroom is rooted in lectures and engaging discussion. The goals are to gain a deep understanding of the thought of the philosophical giants on whose shoulders we stand and then to think through for ourselves the profound questions they and all humans have been pondering since time immemorial.

Professional Experience

In addition to my role at Salve, my research interests have led me to participate in a number of academic and popular events which touch on the intersection of philosophy, the Catholic faith and lived experience. I will mention two here (more can be seen in my CV). I am the main organizer and co-founder of and lecturer at the Theology of the Body International Symposia, which have been held in Austria, Ireland, England, Portugal and Holland, with more to follow. I am co-founder of and lecturer every summer at the Catholic Medical Student and Resident Boot Camp of the Catholic Medical Association
