What's My Why?

One of the most impactful and personally fulfilling things I do at Salve is to engage undergraduate students in authentic lab-based research experiences. Whether working alongside me in my research lab or in one of my lab courses, students learn to use microbiology, molecular biology and bioinformatic tools to answer questions about the fitness of human pathogens in our food chain, the impact of climate change on marine microbes and the factors that influence the microbial communities around the roots of trees. I love watching students get excited about a project, master new skills and gain confidence in their ability to conduct scientific inquiry and communicate the fruits of their research.
