What's My Why?

A mentor once told me, "What an amazing honor it is that we, as professional counselors, might be the only person a client has ever chosen to share their story with." The opportunity to train, grow and learn alongside new counselors around greater self-awareness, knowledge, skills and advocacy is incredibly fulfilling for me. I chose to teach at Salve because the Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy align well with the American Counseling Association's ethical guidelines and the multicultural and social justice counseling competencies. My "why" is because every person deserves to be authentically "seen." Creating safer spaces benefits us all.

Professional Experience

I have worked in professional counseling since 2009, primarily with those impacted by child sexual abuse and domestic violence. I am passionate about working with LGBTQQIA+ communities, relationship systems and advocacy around racial and disability justice. I enjoy working with the community and look forward to when I can dedicate more time to this. I was elected to the North Atlantic Counselor Education and Supervision Board for years and volunteered on national and regional professional counseling conference planning committees. My favorite classes to teach at Salve are Cultural Equity in Counseling, Interpersonal Helping Skills and the practicum and internship courses. Mentorship is also a passion and I enjoy discussing students' future careers with them and presenting at conferences. In addition to serving as department chair and the counseling program's director and clinical coordinator, I have served on multiple committees at Salve, including the Faculty Assembly executive committee.
