Department of History
Salve Regina University's Department of History strives to increase your understanding of the past to give you a better perspective on the contemporary world. Coursework emphasizes American and European history, but you'll also take non-Western history courses to prepare for life in our multicultural society.
Our programs focus on research, writing and analysis, preparing you for graduate school along with a variety of careers in education, law, government, museum studies and business. We also encourage you to study abroad and to complete credit-bearing internships at local museums, libraries or historical societies.
You can choose to double major in history and secondary education, which prepares you to apply for Rhode Island teacher certification for grades 7-12.
History majors have flexibility in supplementing their required courses with interdisciplinary electives. I made connections with other departments by enrolling in American legal history and economic history courses. Additionally, I studied Anglo-American relations in Oxford, England and the Italian perspective of the Holocaust in Florence, Italy.
