Offered annually, the Expressive Arts Institute is a non-credit professional development program. This three-weekend training program provides artists, counselors, educators and those in related fields with basic training in the expressive and creative arts.
Participants learn how to integrate the visual arts with movement, sound and expressive writing in order to facilitate change, healing and self-discovery in both individuals and small groups. Lectures and discussions about the applications of the expressive and creative arts as well as research supporting their efficacy are combined with hands-on activities.
After successfully completing all three weekends of the program, along with associated home-practice assignments, students will receive a certificate of completion, for this foundation training as an expressive arts educational facilitator. Continuing education units (CEUs) are available for those students who wish to receive them.
Tuition for 2015 is $1,595. Admission is competitive and requires a formal application. Applications are reviewed and approved by Expressive Arts Institute faculty. Along with the minimum requirement of a bachelor’s degree, students must be able to fulfill the program requirements according to accepted standards of the profession as deemed essential by expressive arts faculty.
A limited number of students are accepted each year. Interested applicants should contact the program coordinator, Christopher Carbone, at (401) 341-3122 or firstname.lastname@example.org as early as possible since the program is often filled several months in advance.
Note: Completion of the Expressive Arts Institute foundation training also serves as an introduction to the full 15-credit CGS or CAGS in the professional applications of the expressive and creative arts, offered at Salve Regina as part of the holistic graduate programs.
