The bookstore offers new, used and digital textbooks for purchase or rent, along with Salve Regina apparel and gifts, school and residence hall supplies and more. Textbooks are available in-store and online and can be shipped or held for pickup. The textbook rental program offers deep upfront savings and allows students to highlight and make notes in both new and used books. Students who want to keep a rented book can convert their rental to purchase by simply paying the difference at any time during the semester.

The mission of Salve Regina's Day of Service is to provide a common experience for incoming students that encourages a commitment to service and creates a shared opportunity for reflection and learning. Student volunteers, led by a peer mentor, will develop an awareness of the issues affecting the Aquidneck Island community by supporting and meeting the needs of local agencies and individuals. Students will also engage in direct service and solidarity along with a reflection of the University mission and the critical concerns of the local community.

The annual involvement fair will be held from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7 on the Gerety Hall lawn. The event will provide opportunities for students to connect with student clubs and organizations, alongside Aquidneck Island community partners to share various service opportunities and events for the year.

Students can make appointments with licensed counselors beginning Wednesday, Sept. 6. Appointments are available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and can be scheduled by calling (401) 341-2919, emailing counselingservices@salve.edu or visiting the office in Miley Hall.

Students who have mental health emergencies during evenings or weekends should seek assistance through their Resident Advisor or call the Office of Safety and Security at (401) 341-2325. Students who are having difficulty adjusting to Salve Regina are particularly encouraged to seek out counseling services.

All students should submit emergency contact and missing persons information by Thursday, Aug. 31. The information they provide will allow the University to contact the individual(s) designate to inform them if a student experiences a major health or safety issue, or if they are determined to be missing as required by the Higher Education Opportunity Act.

Students should also ensure that their user profile in My Salve is up to date and includes a cell phone number.

Students who experience issues with their Wi-Fi or internet should contact the Technology Services Center at (401) 341-7777 or tsc@salve.edu.

Students should use SchoolDude to report issues in residence halls and campus buildings. To access SchoolDude, log in to the Campus portal and search "Building Repairs" to access the request form. If necessary, students may call (401) 341-3499 and leave a message, however staff are unable to confirm receipt of phone calls. The facilities office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Weekend staff are also on campus from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., but only have access to the building repairs form. Using the form for repair requests allows students to monitor the status of their request.

New students who have not returned their health records to Health Services should do so as soon as possible. All health forms must be submitted on the student health portal. Students who do not have completed health records on file will be unable to register for spring 2024 courses. If you have concerns about completing your health record, please call Health Services to discuss your specific situation. Health records are a Rhode Island state requirement for college entry.

WebEx and Zoom: IT recommends and supports Cisco WebEx, which offers HD streaming and recording as well as support for live events with hundreds of participants. Seahawk presentation station: Located in McKillop Library, Room 012, this studio is available to all members of the Salve Regina community. Anyone may reserve time to make high-quality audio/video recordings independently or with IT support. Applications include faculty pre-recording lectures, student use for completion of academic assignments and administrative use for general video recordings.

Expanded outdoor wireless coverage: State of the art exterior wireless networking is in place for the areas between McKillop Library and Gerety Hall, with full high speed wireless networking coverage on the great lawn area of Gerety Hall. Additional outdoor wireless coverage is being rolled out this academic year. 

Expanded networking capacity: A complete technology refresh of the campus core network is now online. This includes increased resiliency and dramatically increased network capacity between our foundational buildings (10Gbps). In terms of data networking capacity to and from campus, we have gone from a two-lane highway to a 10-lane highway. Our new 10 Gigabit link from OSHEAN has been enhanced, along with segregating residence hall and other network traffic from our other internal and external data networks. The result will be dramatically improved data network performance for all users within our community.

Purchasing stamps and sending mail: Mail Services sells stamps and provides services for shipping via USPS, UPS and FedEx. There is a daily UPS/FedEx/USPS pickup. Prepaid returns may be dropped off at this location.

Parking regulations: First-year resident students are not permitted to have vehicles, motor scooters or other motor-driven cycles (with the exception of electric motorized bicycles that may be propelled by human power or electric motor power, or both) on campus or within the city of Newport. Violations will result in ticketing and towing. Students must complete two semesters at any institution of higher education before a vehicle is authorized.

Parking permits: The vehicle registration process is open for the 2023-2024 academic year. All previously issued resident and commuter decals have expired. All motorized vehicles (including scooters) parked on Salve Regina property must have a valid permit. To register your vehicle online, log in to My Information. Click "Students," then click "Online Vehicle Registration Form" under User Account. Commuter students are reminded to enter or update their local address when prompted.

Students may pick up parking permit(s) in the Office of Safety and Security 24/7 from Sunday, Sept. 3 through Friday, Sept. 15. Please allow 24 hours for decals to be processed. A valid registration, proof of insurance and Salve Regina ID is required to pick up parking permits.

All students must have a valid parking permit by Monday, Sept. 18. Failure to have a valid permit will result in ticketing and the possibility of vehicle booting or towing.

Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA): RIPTA provides free transportation to students with a valid Salve Regina ID. RIPTA trolleys run through campus from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Students with valid IDs may also use any statewide RIPTA line such as Providence or Kingston. Maps and schedules are available on the RIPTA website.

Emergency telephones: Emergency telephones with direct contact to the Office of Safety and Security are strategically located throughout campus. Identified with a blue light, these freestanding telephones are placed in areas with high foot traffic and at the entrances to residence halls and administrative buildings. 

Residence hall security: Our traditional residence halls are equipped with card-swipe access and are locked at all times. The Office of Safety and Security is alerted by alarm when entrances are left open. In conjunction with the Newport police, the offices of Residence Life and Safety and Security meet with first-year students in the residence halls to discuss issues pertaining to personal safety, crime and alcohol.

Bicycle registration: Students who bring bicycles to campus are encouraged to register them, free of charge, with the Office of Safety and Security. Bicycle racks are positioned throughout campus, and bicycle locks are recommended. Students should be aware that bicycles with motors attached, including small scooters, are strictly prohibited. 

Medical transports: Under certain circumstances, the Office of Safety and Security may temporarily transport students on campus who need assistance due to a medical condition. This usually entails those who are on crutches or have similar conditions. The Office of Safety and Security provides transportation to Health Services during business hours and Newport Hospital after-hours, if necessary.

Salve Regina offers students the opportunity to work on and off campus during the academic year through the student employment program. Job opportunities will be posted beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30. Students must be registered full time (12 credits) to apply.

Students will use Handshake to search for positions. New users should access Handshake at salve.joinhandshake.com/login, select Salve Regina University as your school and follow the prompts. Please use your salve.edu email address to log in.

Students may begin working on Wednesday, Sept. 6 (the first day of classes). All positions pay $13 per hour. These wages will increase to $14 per hour on Jan. 1, 2024.

Required documents: If you are hired and have not worked in the student employment program previously or if the documents you used have expired, you must show I-9 documentation prior to your first day of work. Per federal regulations, these documents must be originals. Copies, pictures and faxes cannot be accepted.

First-year students are strongly encouraged to bring the required documents with them to New Seahawk Orientation.
