Community Service Project
The SRU AMA has adopted the Women’s Resource Center of Newport and Bristol Counties this year, and is working with the Center on a number of projects including creating 2 marketing plans, applying for an AMAF grant to support the recommendations in the marketing plans, a food drive, cell phone drive, and a gift card drive.

In cooperation with the Women’s Resource Center of Newport and Bristol Counties, Rhode Island, the Salve Regina University AMA Chapter is working with the Center to create a rebranding strategy which includes testing and selecting a new name for the Center, to create a new marketing plan to attract new donors for the organization, and to create a marketing plan to increase potential client knowledge regarding the breadth of services offered.

The Women’s Resource Center serves 1,500 to 2,000 domestic violence victims each year at its two locations in Newport and Warren RI. These victims, who usually leave on short notice and without very much, come to the Center to seek help and refuge from a domestic abuser. They provide these victims with a safe home to stay in, court advocacy, counseling for both adults and children who witness, and assistance in deciding their options to become economically dependent. The Center also works with schools, businesses and other social service agencies in the prevention of violence to promote healthy relationships and peaceful solutions. Many are not aware of the Center or the breadth of services they provide.
