Department of Safety & Security

In an Emergency Dial Ext. 5555

The Salve Regina University safety and security department considers the safety of our students, faculty, staff and visitors the highest priority. The department consists of a director, administrative assistant, transportation coordinator, secretary, 15 safety and security officers, 9 dispatchers and 7 shuttle drivers.

Safety and security officers are on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Officers patrol on foot, in marked security vehicles and on police mountain bikes. All officers are first aid and CPR-Defibrillator certified annually. At present, 4 officers are nationally certified as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT).

New officers must attend the Rhode Island College and University Public Safety Training Academy. In addition, in-service training is conducted throughout the year.

The department is also responsible for the residence hall card access system, parking permits, shuttle services, lost-and-found, medical transports and bicycle registration. The department of safety and security maintains an excellent working relationship with local police and fire departments. The director also communicates frequently with other Rhode Island institutes of higher education regarding college related activities and incidents.
