NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University undergraduate students enrolled in Judith Keenan's business information systems classes participated recently in real interview simulations via videoconferencing with high-level Argentinian head hunter Cristina Mejias.
Mejias, an executive with CTT Argentina SA, donated three hours of her time to conduct the job interviews, asking students several questions ranging from their personal interests, to their extra-curricular, academic and career aspirations. Following the sessions, Mejias praised Salve students for their answers and told them they would be attractive candidates for entry-level positions at a variety of international firms.
The interviews were arranged by Pablo Baques, a consultant for Newport County Small Business Development Center on technology integration and management of information systems, Web site development and marketing. This semester, Bacques, a former member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Argentina, coordinated the real interview simulation via videoconference with Argentina.
As part of the project, students prepared for the mock interviews, learning about successful interview techniques and studying Argentinian culture.
"This experience was of immeasurable value both to our stuents and to those of us who are interested in expanding the scope of our teaching to reflect the increasingly global nature of the business world," said Judith Keenan, professional lecturer in Salve's information systems science department.
