5k run/ walk among the Gilded Age mansions in and around Salve Regina University's historic Newport, Rhode Island campus.

Course

USATF-certified 5k (3.1-mile) course starts and finishes on Salve Regina University's campus, and includes a run through Newport's historic Bellevue Avenue/Ochre Point neighborhood of Gilded Age mansions and spectacular ocean-side landscapes.

Men: Sean Livingston, Barrington RI- 15:19 (2001)

Women: Heidi Westerling, Narragansett, RI - 17:28 (2005)


David Haffner of North Smithfield holds off Newport’s Joe Hall down the stretch to finish 10th.


Francine Darroch of Providence finished second among women in 18:52. The race was won by Heidi Westerling (17:28), who set a new course record.

Registration

Online registration is now closed. Post-registration opens Saturday at 7 a.m. at Rodgers Recreation Center.

Prizes

$1,200 in cash prizes will be awarded to the top male and female runners, including $150 for first place overall, $100 for second place overall and $50 for third place overall. Also, $50 will be awarded to the first place male and female finishers in the following age classifications: 19-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50-59, 60-69, and 70+.

 

 

Entry Fee

$15 for registrations received by September 21, 2007; $20 on race day.

Scott Bessette of Wakefield ran 15:58 to finish second overall.


Danielle Palms, 12, of Smithfield, finished the race in 21:44, which placed her sixth overall among females.
