History & Mission
The Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy at Salve Regina University underscores our country's dedication to bringing peaceful means of resolution into current and emerging public policy issues. It was formed to pay tribute to Claiborne deBorda Pell, a distinguished gentleman and statesman who has exemplified wisdom, courage and leadership in national and international politics. Senator Pell has held a multitude of influential U.S. Senate posts and continues to be recognized for his integrity and high personal standards.
Salve Regina is honored by the opportunity to develop a center to perpetuate Senator Pell's life's work. The university has shared a warm and respectful relationship with the Senator through many decades. Since its founding, our institutional mission has fostered a dedication to truth and individual responsibility that is supportive of all societies. We have encouraged moral reasoning and critical thinking as essential components in the shaping of foreign and national public policy. In addition to providing an educational environment that embraces the Senator's priorities, our geographical proximity to the great learning areas of the Northeast serves as a synthesizing force for the studies of peace, world order and security.
