Shanthi Kalathil

Associate, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace

Ms. Kalathil joined the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in April 2000 as an Associate in the Project on the Information Revolution and World Politics. Prior to joining Carnegie, she worked for six years as a teacher and journalist in Asia, most recently as a Hong Kong-based staff reporter for the Asian Wall Street Journal. Her previous writing has covered Asian financial markets and the Chinese telecommunications industry. She has also written extensively on Hong Kong's transition to Chinese rule and the 1997 Asian economic crisis. Her research interests include the impact of technological change on financial markets, the global digital divide, the socio-cultural aspects of the information revolution in developing countries, and the effects of the information revolution on democratization in Asia.

Ms. Kalathil holds a B.A. from U.C. Berkeley and a M.Sc. in government from the London School of Economics.
