Ambassador M. Akram Zaki

Former Pakistani Secretary General of Foreign Affairs

Ambassador Mohammed Akram Zaki (Sheikh) was born at Gujranwala, Punjab, Pakistan on October 27, 1931. His late father, Mr. Abdul Majid Asgbar (Sheikh), was a famous lawyer and jurist of Punjab, Pakistan. After passing the matriculation examination in 1947 from Mehboab Alam Islamia High School, Mr. Akram Zaki studied at the Forman Christian College, Lahore, where he received a degree in Philosophy and Economics in 1951. Later he earned a Law Degree (LL.B) from the Punjab Universiy in 1953 and joined the Lahore bar. Following this, he obtained a Master's Degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Medford, MA in 1955.

Ambassador Zaki has an outstanding record of distinguished public service as a career diplomat and as a Senator. His integrity is beyond reproach. He enjoys a reputation of honesty, dedication to duty, firm faith in Pakistan's ideology, and loyalty to the country.

Ambassador Akram Zaki is a former Senator and was the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs. During his diplomatic career he served as Pakistan's Ambassador to China, USA, Nigeria, the Philipines and later became the Secretary General for Foreign Affairs. Currently he is Chairman of the Pakistan-Europe (EU) Friendship Association which was inaugurated in October 2000.
