Charles P. Neimeyer

Dean of Academics, U.S. Naval War College

Dr. Neimeyer is the Dean of Academics at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, where he also holds the Naval War College Forrest Sherman Chair of Public Diplomacy.

He started his military career as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps and was assigned duties with the Fleet Marine Force as an artillery officer. Dr. Neimeyer served in a variety of posts and stations during his Marine Corps career including assignments as a Battery Commander, professor of history at the U.S. Naval Academy, professor of National Security Studies at the Naval War College, and service on the military staff of the President of the United States. While on active duty he was awarded the Joint Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal with Gold Star in lieu of a second award, and the National Defense Medal.

Retiring from the Marine Corps in 1996 as a Lieutenant Colonel, Dr. Neimeyer taught for one year on the history department faculty at the University of Central Oklahoma earning a distinction while there as Liberal Arts Teacher of the Year. He then returned to the Naval War College as a civilian Professor of National Security Affairs.

Dr. Neimeyer has authored numerous books and articles on U.S. military and national security affairs. He earned a Master of Arts and Doctorate with Distinction in History from Georgetown University and an M.A. with highest distinction from the Naval War College.
