The Pell Center promotes the primary objectives of Sen. Claiborne Pell's decades of public service: Enhancing international dialogue to achieve a more peaceful world and preparing individuals for an informed and active role in local, national and world affairs.
Visiting Scholars maintain a focus similar to the Pell Visiting Fellows, although the application process is less formal. Oftentimes, Visiting Scholars work in conjunction with a wide spectrum of students and faculty on campus.
There is no set time limit for a Visiting Scholar. Although the Pell Center does not, as a general matter, fund Visiting Scholars, the center may on occasion assist in securing accommodations and other necessary arrangements. When a candidate would not be able to commit to a Pell Visiting Scholarship without additional financial assistance, every effort will be made to make aid available. The Pell Center will provide letters in support of Scholars' applications for funding to foundations and other institutions.

Father Albino Barrera, professor of economics and theology at Providence College, will spend the 2009-2010 academic year in-residence at Salve Regina as a Pell Visiting Scholar. Given his impressive and committed accomplishments in both teaching and writing on Catholic social thought, the economics of globalization and normative economics, we encourage you to consider having him visit your classes to engage with students and share critically important ideas.
If you or your students are interested in meeting with Father Barrera, please contact him directly at Ext. 2395 or albino.barrera@salve.edu.
