Student Experiences

"As a Pell [Scholar], I have had the pleasure to meet many wonderful people. By attending events and classes with fellow scholars, I have been able to share stories and laughs, creating lasting friendships. I have also been privileged to have many wonderful professors through the Pell Program. They have made my academic experience an enriching one, while providing great enthusiasm toward events and students' involvement in school relations outside of the classroom.

The classes that I have taken, through the program have greatly expanded my knowledge about many topics and issues I have never been exposed to before. Many of my greatest experiences here at Salve have been through the Pell Program."

"The Pell Program is a good network of support that helps students to keep motivated to strive to achieve future goals."

"The Pell Program has been a great way to get involved and to meet others.The functions that are provided help unify the group to a point where we can help each other to accomplish goals. It is a difficult program, but the challenge gives me a sense of motivation to stay with it and to work hard."

"The honor's program, and its focus on international relations and public policy, allows Salve to retain its small-style community and still be equipped with the vast benefits that the Pell center provides. As a future physician, I plan on working in under served areas both domestically and abroad. As a Pell Scholar, I was taught many times that understanding the individual identities of a given culture is essential to providing any real benefit. Furthermore, the cross disciplinary course offerings supplement the understanding of each students individual interests intersecting with global concerns, which inevitably provides a deeper sense of meaning and purpose. Overall, I feel that my time as a Pell Scholar has been vital in shaping my future."

"I got more out of the Pell Program than just academics. I met whom I would consider one of my best friends even after we have graduated and begun our professional careers - I feel that the academics were more challenging and taught me a lot, but I think the bonds that we formed were one of the strongest elements I took from the program."

"In keeping with the University's tradition of preparing students to serve the community, The Pell Scholars Honors program has enhanced my educational experience by challenging me in unique courses of specialized interests. I have interned with Congressman Kennedy and studied in Rome, Italy . The program provides an interdisciplinary approach to a liberal education by creatively fulfilling general education requirements that augment my coursework in the politics and art departments."

"The Pell Scholars[Honors] Program has given me the opportunity to advance my studies beyond that of the typical student. It provided unique and engaging courses that have stimulated my academic thinking and discourse. Beyond that, its dedication to international relations and public policy had strong impressions on my career path as I am now continuing my post-graduate studies in Europe. Even outside the classroom, the Pell Scholar program provided the opportunity to meet and converse with many of the prominent guests that visit or lecture at the university. Further the program introduced me to students who shared the same interests as me which has led to lasting friendships."
