Orientation

Welcome! We are so happy that you are joining the Salve Regina family. Starting college is an exciting time for both students and their families. Our Orientation program is designed to help ease your transition and prepare you and your family for your time with us.

Orientation dates

  • Thursday, June 9 to Friday, June 10
  • Monday, June 13 to Tuesday, June 14
  • Thursday, June 16 to Friday, June 17
  • Monday, June 20 to Tuesday, June 21
  • Thursday, June 23 to Friday, June 24
  • Friday, Sept. 2 (transfer students)

Orientation registration will be available May 3-29. You are encouraged to register immediately in order to secure your place in this session. First-year students who do not register for Orientation by the May 29 deadline will be asked to register for the Sept. 2 session.

When you register for Orientation, you will see two to five available options depending on your intended major. It is strongly recommended that you attend an Orientation session designed for your academic area of interest, as academic advisers for your intended major will only be available during those sessions.

Orientation FAQ

How will I know if my session has been confirmed?

You will receive an automatically generated confirmation via email indicating that you have successfully registered for Orientation. Once the confirmation is received, you may move forward with securing travel arrangements.

What if I can’t attend the date listed?

It is recommended that you attend an Orientation session designed for your academic area of interest, as academic advisers for your intended major will only be available during those sessions. If you cannot attend Orientation, contact the Office of Student Activities at (401) 341-2915 or sruorientation@salve.edu.

Is there a cost for Orientation?

The cost of Orientation is included in the commitment fee, which you have already submitted. This fee includes all meals and materials for you and two family members. A $50 fee will be assessed to any family members or guests beyond the two family members included in your commitment fee. This fee will be collected at check-in on the day of your Orientation session. We accept cash, checks, Visa and MasterCard. Family members or guests under the age of 12 are welcomed to attend Orientation free of charge.

Who should I contact if either a family member or I need special accommodations?

Special accommodations can be indicated on your Orientation registration form. For additional information, contact the Office of Student Activities at (401) 341-2915 or sruorientation@salve.edu.

I am an international student. Do I need to attend Orientation?

If you are attending Salve Regina as an international student or scholar, you are required to attend the International Student Orientation from Aug. 28 through Sept. 2. For more information, call the Office of International Programs at (401) 341-2372 or visit their website.

How can I change my Orientation session?

If you have registered for Orientation and need to change your session date, contact the Office of Student Activities at (401) 341-2915 or sruorientation@salve.edu.

When does the semester start?

Classes will begin Wednesday, Sept. 7.

What is my room assignment for the fall?

For first-year students, the room assignment process begins with an online housing application, which provides the Office of Residence Life with the information necessary to assign students a roommate and residence hall room.

Housing applications for new students are available online from May 16 through July 1. After July 1, room and roommate requests are processed. Please note that roommate requests are only granted when all students requesting roommates have indicated the option on their respective applications. In mid-July, first-year students receive notification through their Salve Regina email address that their room assignment and roommate information is available through the My Salve portal.

What about textbooks?

The Rent-A-Text program offered by the Salve Regina bookstore gives you the option to rent your textbooks at a significant savings compared to the cost of purchasing a new book.

Textbooks are rented by the semester and have a final check-in date that is typically the last day of final exams. The program allows highlighting, taking notes and the normal wear and tear associated with coursework. Is there a bank on campus or nearby where I can open an account?

Santander Bank is nearby and has an ATM in Miley Hall. A second ATM is located in Wakehurst Student Center. It is not affiliated with a bank and charges $1 per transaction.
