FOR STUDENTS Visiting | Preparing | Assistants | What you can do | Resources VISITING THE WRITING CENTER If you are having difficulty getting started, bring a list of ideas or questions, so the tutor can help you choose a topic and put together a plan. If you are already working on a paper, bring a typed copy or a disk, and the assignment description, if your professor has provided one. Your own list of questions, or problems you would like to work on, is also helpful. When you meet with a tutor, plan to spend half an hour discussing your work, asking questions, and listening to suggestions. We are here to help you with the writing process in a shared effort that depends on your active participation to succeed. Writing Tutors will help you with everything from invention to proofreading strategies, but remember this is not a “fix-it” shop. Editing and proofreading are skills that we can help you to develop and master, not “services” that we provide. You are welcome to return for as many appointments as you feel you need to complete a work to your own satisfaction. Please contact the Coordinator or Assistant Coordinator if you encounter any difficulties with the process.
