Technology Update for Spring Semester
Ruckus Music Service
Salve Regina University has partnered with Ruckus, a university sponsored online music service, to provide free music sharing for all students with a Salve.edu e-mail address. Please visit www.ruckus.com for more information about this new service which certifies all downloads are 100% legal, virus-free, and spyware-free.
Emergency Notification Data Collection
Salve Regina University is in the process of creating an updated emergency communication system to better reach students, faculty and staff in the event of an emergency situation on campus. The updated system will allow Salve Regina emergency task force members to send a recorded message to cell phones, and also send a text message and e-mail through one distribution mechanism known as ConnectED. More information about this updated system and how students can ensure that their contact information is accurate within the system will be distributed during the spring semester. A campus-wide test of the new system will also be conducted during the spring semester.
New Salve ID Card Business Partner
Newport Perscription Center located on 289 Broadway, Newport is now available for Salve ID Card holders to purchase their perscriptions or other pharmacy-related items. Previously, the university had made similar business arrangements with Subway and Pick Pockets restaurants respectively located on Thames Street in downtown Newport. The university will also be exploring other partnerships during the winter/spring to provide additional alternative off campus food service options.
Deposits on an individual's Salve ID account can be made through the Business Office in Ochre Court during normal business hours or by using the cash to card machine (Valueport) located in the Miley Hall lobby at any time.
New Helpdesk Area
Beginning this semester, all staff, faculty, and students, are welcome to visit our new campus Helpdesk area or Technology Service Center located on the first floor in room 104 of the Munroe Center at the corner of Ochre Point and Shepard Avenues. The center will be open during campus business hours (8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) and set up for either walk-in service or scheduled appointments. This area will work in conjunction with the existing Student Laptop Center in room 008 of the McKillop Library for student computer needs. Please feel free to stop by or give a call at extension 7777 (option 2).
Bradford System Scanning Procedure
In order to better protect and service our network community at Salve Regina, the implementation of a campus network scanning system has taken place which will prevent computers infected with viruses, spyware, or programs that present a threat to our technology resources from connecting to the Salve Regina network. This new technology will also help to direct individuals whose computers may be infected to our Helpdesk area in order to have issues resolved as quickly as possible.
