Network Services Glenn Clark Stephen Arruda Gerry Ginty Al George Julia Poland Matthew Renaud David Spalding Michael Trainor Michael Vucci Scott Williams University Computer Labs Brian McDonnell Kristen Young Cheryl Cadle Michael Marshall Theodore August IV Raquel McCullough DEPARTMENT ORGANIZATION The Office of Information Technologies consists of three departments; they are Information Systems (Department 5020 - Administrative and Web Services), Network Services (Department 5560 - Data Networks, Network Computing and Telecommunications), and the University Computer Labs/Academic Technology Services (Department 2020 - Lab Classrooms, Dedicated Classrooms with Teacher Stations, Multimedia, and AudioVisual). The major responsibilities of these three departments and their respective areas are as follows:
Information Systems: Department 5020 Applications: staff provides in-house support for Scanware Administrative application which runs on a new IBM AS/400 midrange computer; further, in-house staff is available for implementation and technical support for personal computer, local network and intranet applications used for individual, departmental, interdepartmental, and campus wide requirements. Web Services: staff designs, develops and supports all faculty, staff, and administrative web sites and applications.
Network Services: Department 5560 Data Networks: staff provides in-house support for over 1,500 data communication connection points, data switches and hubs, and network traffic management; further, staff designs, supports and installs network solutions for intradepartmental, interdepartmental and Internet data communication requirements such as file sharing, database systems, print sharing, email and web browsing. Network Computing: staff provides in-house support for all faculty, staff, and administrative microcomputers (MACs and PCs) and printers on campus; further, staff is responsible for obtaining, configuring, installing, and keeping an accurate inventory of all new University computers, printers, and standard software licenses. Telecommunications: staff supports over 3,000 voice communication points on campus using switch technologies; further, staff supports all telecommunication problems, requests for adds, deletions, and moves, requests for voice, video and data cabling, and the voice messaging system.
University Computer Labs/Academic Technology Services: Department 2020 University Computer Lab Classrooms: The University has eight computer classrooms, which includes a 'drop-in' computer room and multi-media services located on the garden level of the McKillop Library. The computer areas, located in McKillop, O’Hare, Wetmore, and Mercy, house over 200 workstations in three PC labs, the PC 'drop-in' room, two Mac labs, and a Mac digital photo lab. All machines have Internet access and printing capabilities. Staff provides training on computer usage, Microsoft Office 2007 applications, including Microsoft Outlook, and other software as requested; this training is available to patrons on a small group or larger workshop basis. In addition, the UCL staff provides setups for laptops and projection units as requested by faculty, staff, students and conference presenters. Technology Classrooms: staff provides support for faculty and students who use the technology enhanced classrooms on campus; the dedicated classrooms have 'Teacher Stations' most of which contain a computer, laptop connection, DVD/VCR, internet connection, sound system, and several with a document camera. Multimedia: staff provides multimedia development, training, and support for individuals as well as groups (both internal and external to the University); training is available for small groups, and larger groups as requested. Audio Visual: staff is responsible for audiovisual needs of faculty, staff and students; support consists of setup, proper maintenance, and inventory control of audio visual equipment (sound systems, TVs, DVD/VCRs, screens, projectors, and related items), campus wide. The audio visual department provides students, faculty and staff with assistance as it relates to the audio visual area. These services include but are not limited to hardware distribution (sound systems, overhead projectors, screens, etc.), video filming, and editing videos.
