Microsoft Office 2007
Through the university’s Microsoft Campus Agreement, Salve Regina has the opportunity to upgrade its standard Office suite to the latest release, Microsoft Office 2007. This latest release of Office 2007 includes several new features (approximately 176) with the two most notable being a new user interface (the ‘ribbon’ interface) and a new file format (XML-based). It should be noted that any files created under the existing Office 2003 format are compatible with Office 2007. For the migration to Office 2007 to proceed on a timely basis, all UCL computer lab classrooms and the classroom teacher stations will be updated with Office 2007 for the fall semester.
As a migration goal, a target date of Spring Semester 2008 has been set for the completed deployment of Microsoft Office 2007 to university supported computers. The migration is intended to occur in phases starting this summer with the more immediate deliverable addressing student and faculty needs. Faculty members are asked to call the helpdesk to request the installation of Microsoft Office 2007 on their computers. For staff considerations, departmental meetings are being planned to better appreciate specific departmental requirements and applications.
The current status of the deployment is as follows. The UCL has deployed Office 2007 to all of the PC labs in McKillop, including Lab 004,005,006,007. All Teacher Stations on campus with an in-cabinet computer have been updated. The laptop cart in O’Hare 240 has new HP nc6400s which have Office 2007. The McKillop Library public area computers, including Room 106, have Office 2007 installed.
