Increased use of laptop computers and an increase of mobility have fueled the demand for wireless networks. Up until recently, wireless technology was slow, expensive and reserved for mobile situations or environments where cabling was just not possible. With the maturing of industry standards and the deployment of lightweight wireless networking hardware across a broad consumer market, wireless technology has come of age.

At Salve Regina, wireless networking has expanded from a few strategically placed access points into a campus-wide initiative to enable laptop users greater freedom to work on their own terms.

It should be noted that wireless networking is for convenience not performance. Mobility does not provide the same efficiency of traditional cable-based networking.

This initiative is an ongoing effort and will likely continue in years to come. To find out more about the current plans and the future considerations for wireless networking on campus feel free to explore the pages of this section or contact the office via helpdesk@salve.edu.
