Please review the following for instruction on to keep this software up to date in order to best protect your laptop from security threats and exploits.

How-To: Download Latest Anti-Virus Definitions

Always remember to update your Symantec AntiVirus program.

Each day, new and more powerful viruses are released onto the unsuspecting user. In order to better protect yourself and your computer, it is important to do LiveUpdates on the software about once a week. The following instructions will better explain how to do this.

First, locate the Symantec AntiVirus icon in your taskbar on the lower right hand corner of the screen. It is the icon resembling a shield.

After you double-click on that icon, the AntiVirus program will start up.

Locate the button that says "LiveUpdate" in this window and click on it to proceed.

Clicking on the button will bring up another window. You want to locate the "Next" button on this window and click it.

Doing so will prompt the machine to automatically update your virus software. Depending on how long it's been since the last time you update, this may or may not take very long. After the update has finished, click the "Finish" button and close the program.

How-To: Schedule Anti-Virus Updates

To adjust the auto-update schedule on the Symantec Anti-Virus program, follow these steps:

Click on the Symantec Anti-Virus icon in the lower right corner, it looks like a yellow shield.

This will open up the Symantec program. You will then want to click on "File" in the upper menu and select "Schedule Updates".

The "Schedule Virus Definition Updates" window will open. Make sure you click on the "Schedule" button highlighted below.

Here, the schedule was originally set to "Weekly". In this demonstration, we have clicked on "Daily", highlighted below. Selected your desired frequency, and then click "OK".

Your selected frequency should appear in the window. Make sure that the box next to "Enable scheduled automatic updates" is checked and then close the program.

Normally, Symantec Anti-Virus is set to auto-update, but for whatever reason if it ceases to do this, now you know how to manually update them.
