Salve Regina University

2007-2008 Wellness Themes

In lieu of the monthly health initiatives that governed programming in the past, the Wellness Committee and Office of Human Resources is excited to introduce its new theme:

E3

A review of the top health claims of our university reveals that many of our health concerns: hypertension, high cholesterol, osteoporosis and lower back pain could be eliminated or stabilized by following a proper diet, beginning or increasing a fitness program, and taking steps to eliminate stress in our lives. While this is a simple solution to verbalize, there is nothing simple about making behavioral lifestyle changes. Before individuals can effect any type of significant change, they need to: think about making the change, prepare for the change, set goals, make the change, and put support systems in place to reward the behavior change, and maintain the new lifestyle.

The Office of Human Resources and the Wellness Committee is devoting this year to assist you in making behavioral changes. Our theme for the year is E3: Eat right, Exercise daily, and Eliminate stress. Motivational speakers, weight loss and fitness initiatives and programs to help you reduce stress will be offered throughout the year.

  • The first Weight Watchers at Work program ended on December 18, 2007. The seventeen participants lost over 200 pounds during the twelve-week session.
  • The second annual Free-for-All-Fall Fitness program ran from October - December 2007. The program challenged teams to either begin or increase their amount of aerobic activity over an eight-week period. Teams were formed based on their entering level of physical activity.

The Winning Teams Are:

Category C - Bookers 2007
Category B - M & M's
Category A - The Bunny Slopers

While it may require Herculean effort to make some of these changes, your wellness team is here to inspire, assist, and support you in your efforts to improve your health and well-being.
