  • Provide the university with timely notification of the request for disability services such that reasonable accommodations may be arranged and provided.
  • Establish a documentation file by providing the Academic Development Center with adequate documentation of the disability that meets all the above requirements.
  • Meet with the Director of the Academic Development Center at the start of each semester for which accommodations are being requested to determine current disability needs and appropriate accommodations.
  • Meet with individual professors to communicate disability needs and intention to use disability accommodations; then, if appropriate to their accommodations, remind professors before tests to send the tests to the ADC
  • Make individual appointments at the ADC at least a week in advance for the taking of exams using approved accommodations.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT CENTER

  • Provide information concerning the university’s disability resources and services to students with disabilities upon request.
  • Respond to disability-related accommodation requests in a timely manner.
  • Meet with students who request accommodations to determine reasonable and effective accommodations within the context of a particular course or program’s essential elements.
  • Provide reasonable and appropriate accommodations, academic adjustments and/or auxiliary aids for students with disabilities as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality of all information and records concerning a student’s disability as required by federal and state law.
  • Serve as a resource and support to university faculty and staff regarding general disability information, and about disability accommodations and services for students

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PROFESSOR
Once approached by the student the professor must:

  • Verify that the student qualifies for disability accommodations by: receiving the "Notification of Accommodations" form from the student (signed and dated by the ADC Director); by telephoning the ADC Director at ext. 2228 or 3150; or both.
  • Allow or provide accommodations for students’ disability needs, which might include one or more of the above named accommodations. Other accommodations are also possible, and professors are welcome to recommend alternate accommodations appropriate to their particular subject area by mutual agreement, as long as the suggested accommodation meets the requirement of “reasonableness” under the ADA (the ADC Director can tell you this).
