RIPTA Services

Salve Regina students can travel by trolley to get to their service sites. Most Newport nonprofits are located on a bus line. Student IDs serve as valid passes, providing unlimited ridership on busses and trolleys anywhere in RIPTA's statewide system during the academic year. Maps and schedules are available outside the Office of Community Service and students can access RIPTA schedules online at www.ripta.com.

Community Service Shuttle

If the service site is not on a bus route, students should contact the Office of Community Service 48 hours in advance at Ext. 2440 to arrange for transportation with the community service shuttle.

  • Information needed: Location, time to arrive and depart from site, date and contact information.
  • Schedule time: Schedule transportation time 15 minutes prior to the time you need to arrive to your service site.
  • Cancellations: To cancel your shuttle ride to your community service program during work hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday), call Ext. 2440. After work hours call security dispatch at Ext. 2325 before your scheduled time.
  • Promptness: Please be on time. The shuttle will leave at the time specified.
  • Location of shuttle: Pick up and drop off location is Miley Hall.
  • Availability: The shuttle is only available to students who schedule their transportation 48 hours in advance. If your name is not on the driver's list, you will not be able to use the shuttle until an appointment has been arranged.
  • Rules: In an effort to keep the shuttle running smoothly, students who are "no shows" twice without prior cancellation will forfeit transportation privileges. Students who need to complete service hours for a class are not to use this shuttle. Instead, they should contact their professor or department chair to coordinate transportation.

To set up a ride, contact the Office of Community Service at Ext. 2440. To cancel a ride during work hours, call Ext. 2440 or contact Larry Kestler, transportation services coordinator, at Ext. 2322 or kestlerl@salve.edu. To cancel a ride after office hours, contact the security dispatch at Ext. 2325.
