The Office of Community Service, in partnership with the Mercy Center for Spiritual Life, offers students the chance to volunteer in New Orleans during spring break. Participants assist residents affected by Hurricane Katrina by rebuilding homes in the city’s Broadmoor neighborhood.

Salve Regina considers participation in community service a visible way to live the mission of the institution. All new students are expected to participate in a service-learning experience (10-hour minimum) in the Newport area during their first year. This experience allows them to share their talents with those in need as well as to learn about themselves and the community that they will call "home away from home" for several years.
The Office of Community Service maintains an extensive inventory of service opportunities and facilitates transportation for students to service sites. Staff members are available during normal business hours to discuss service-learning opportunities with all interested students, faculty and staff at the university.
