SERVICES FOR STUDENTS Carefully follow the directions below, carrying them out well in advance of the time that you expect to begin your internship. Receive initial department Chairperson and/or Faculty Sponsor approval. Determine if your internship will be for academic credit or a field experience (without credit). Ask your Faculty Sponsor to deliver a memorandum to the Interim Director, indicating his / her knowledge and confirmation of your
request to seek an internship for either academic credit or field experience
(without credit). Internship for Academic Credit: Obtain an Internship Agreement for Academic Credit form at the Career Development Center in Miley Hall. Make an appointment to see the Interim Director for final explanation of procedures (call ext. 2275 or 2913). When you locate and secure a suitable internship, obtain a clearly printed copy of your proposed internship responsibilities, along with the Internship Supervisor’s signature on the Agreement form. Take these to your Faculty Sponsor for signature of approval. The number of credits allowed may be determined by the quality and duration of your proposed experience. Receive your academic requirements from your Faculty Sponsor, i.e., a final paper, oral presentation, and/or progress reports. In addition, the Supervisor’s written Evaluation of your internship will assist your Faculty Sponsor in determining your final grade. Read SRU Responsibilities on reverse of Agreement form before registering for credits or beginning the internship. After all paperwork is properly completed, receive approval and signature from Dr. Stephen Trainor, Dean of Undergraduate Studies, to begin an internship for academic credit. Registration will follow, but credit will be allowed only when paperwork is submitted on time. Internship for Field Experience (without credit): If you seek a field experience without academic credit, make an appointment
with a Faculty Sponsor to discuss your intentions. Then make an appointment
with the Interim Director in Miley Hall for assistance in acquiring
an internship and completing required paperwork, along with final instructions.
A written Evaluation will complete your file at the conclusion of the
internship. Your obligation to fulfill proposed responsibilities is
the same as if you were carrying out an internship for credit. Read
SRU Responsibilities on reverse of Agreement form before beginning the
internship. A record of your internship will be kept on file for
seven years in the Career Development
Center for reference and proof of completion.
