SERVICES FOR STUDENTS
FOCUS
What is it?
FOCUS is a career and educational planning system that will help you
develop an accurate picture of your personal strengths, needs, and preferences;
and will help you develop a sound career plan.
FOCUS provides students, adults in career transition, and those planning
for a retirement vocation with personalized career and educational planning.
It has been used in career service centers nationwide for over 10 years.
Self assessment tools guide you through the career planning process
that first helps you broaden your horizons, and then, narrow down your
occupational and educational choices.
FOCUS will help you with the following:
Your current career planning status
You will answer specific questions about how involved you are in planning
your career, and in the assessment of your current skills, interests,
abilities and values. FOCUS will then evaluate your readiness to update
and modify your plans in response to changes in the workplace and in
your life.
Your interests and work values
You will be asked specific questions about your interests and values.
Your answers will be summarized in a profile that will be used to help
you search for and explore occupations related to your specific profile.
Your education and training
You will identify your preferred educational family, and then your preferred
areas of specialization.
Your personality and life values
You will be asked questions about how you think and behave in different
situations. Your answers will be used to crate a profile and describe
your personality type. FOCUS will then create a list of occupations
for you to look at.
Your leisure time preferences
You will answer questions about things you enjoy doing in your spare
time. Your answers will be used to create a profile that describes your
leisure and time interests. FOCUS will then create a list of occupations
for you to examine.
Your current or future skills
You will be asked specific questions about your skills. Based on your
answers, FOCUS will create a list of occupations for you to investigate
that are compatible with those skills.
Your personal development needs
To achieve your chances of achieving your career goals you may need
to improve your qualifications and skills in certain areas. FOCUS will
summarize your self-improvement needs.
