SERVICES FOR EMPLOYERS

Introduction

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Internships are an investment for your company and for the future.
Internships provide a critical link between academia and the working arena. Through participation in Salve Regina’s internship program, students are able to combine academic knowledge with career interests, while gaining first-hand experience in a professional setting. Internships not only enhance a student’s educational experience, but also contribute to their overall employability as college graduates. There is no cost to hire Salve Regina interns, and the investment in their future truly pays dividends.

As an Internship Sponsor You Will
1. Increase your workforce with minimal investment.
2. Be exposed to fresh and innovative ideas.
3. Enrich the exchange of ideas between the university and the professional world.

Each agency, company or business offering an internship must designate an employee as the internship supervisor. This individual will outline the responsibilities of the intern as well as evaluate the intern’s overall performance.

Internship Supervisor
The internship supervisor will:

  • Directly supervise the student intern and meet regularly to evaluate performance
  • Represent the agency, company or business sponsoring the internship in
all communications with the Internship Coordinator and the university
  • Provide the career development center with a description of the intern’s
responsibilities and a list of rules and regulations that govern the work habits of employees
  • Notify the faculty sponsor and Internship Coordinator if the intern’s
attendance, performance or general quality of work drops below satisfactory
  • Complete the final evaluation form on the intern’s performance
  • Discuss the evaluation with the intern prior to sending it to the Internship Coordinator
Compensation
The agency, company or business sponsoring a student intern has the option of paying that student a stipend.

Credit
Academic credit may be earned for each internship completed, as outlined and approved by the department chairperson and the vice president for academic affairs.

Duration
The duration of an internship may vary according to the needs and interests of both the student and the employer. Internships may coincide with the academic calendar, overlap semesters or take place during the summer.
