Student Medical Insurance
In order to ensure that all full time undergraduate students have some form of health insurance, the university provides a health insurance policy with $25,000 coverage to all full time undergraduates enrolled students. This policy is not intended to replace existing parental coverage but rather it provides supplemental gap coverage. All full time students may see a physician, nurse practitioner, or nurse at the health services office without charge; however, charges are incurred for prescriptions, certain procedures, treatments and laboratory tests.
The university also has partnered with the Newport Hospital to extend health coverage on a 24 hour/7day a week basis. The Health Insurance Program covers most charges and most inpatient charges at the Newport Hospital up to coverage limits. Insurance coverage for the 2006-07 academic year is effective from August 23, 2006 to August 22, 2007. Information about the insurance program is mailed to the students each year and is also available on the University Health Plans website. All students receive a health insurance identification card at the start of each semester. Please refer to the insurance brochure PDF listed below for coverage information.
The university makes this coverage available to all part time students once they pay the requisite premium. Coverage can be granted for the fall semester, spring semester, or the entire year. Premium amounts vary each year. Students who are interested should click on the link below to apply for coverage. Fill out the application and remit the requisite premium to the business office prior to the start of the semester.
