FAQS

Can I see my student tuition account on line?

All students can see their student tuition account (all financial transactions) online by accessing the university portal named MY SALVE. The student enters a user ID and password and is able to see all billing information. Parents can also see this information if the student gives the user ID and password to the parent. This allows 24 hours, 7 day a week access to student billing information.

What is the purpose of the $500(Resident Student) $300 (Commuter Student) admission deposit?

The first $300 (non-refundable after May 1) of the commitment deposit is split to cover the following:

    1. $100 the administrative cost of acceptance and matriculation into the university
    2. $200 is to cover the cost of the first year experience program inclusive of summer orientation.

The additional $200 paid by prospective resident students represents a housing reservation deposit. This reservation deposit is held in a separate account and credited back to the student account during the spring semester of the student's sophomore year.

What is the purpose of the activities fee?

The activities fee is used to fund student activities, organizations, concerts and events held on campus. It is separated and controlled by student organizations for student use. It also helps fund the operation of the Wakehurst Student Center and allows for statewide access to RIPTA bus service. The activities fee is $100 per semester.

Why did I receive a late fee on my student account?

Tuition, room/board and fees are due in full by August 1 for the fall semester and December 17 for the spring semester. If the tuition bill is not paid in full by these dates (unless covered by anticipated financial aid or a non delinquent monthly payment plan with Tuition Management Systems), the university reserves the right to charge late payment fees in accordance with stated policy.

How do I request a refund of an overpayment to my student account?

All student refunds must be requested in writing and are made payable to the student unless otherwise requested by the person responsible for the payment of the bill. If the credit balance is from a loan applied for by the parent, that portion of the overpayment will be refunded to the parent. Refund requests may take up to ten working days to process and will be mailed home unless requested otherwise. Please complete a STUDENT REFUND REQUEST in the business office or download the form, fill it out, sign it, and return it to the business office.

Can I receive an advance on my anticipated financial aid?

Students may request a refund of any overpayment on their tuition account as soon as the university has received the financial aid funds. Students are able to monitor their student account balances using the My Information application of the MY SALVE portal. The university will not advance funds in anticipation of financial aid.

How do I make a change to my meal plan or housing assignment?

Student may make changes to their housing assignment and meal plan during designated periods during the year. For more information, please contact the office of residential life at 401-341-2210.

What are the items listed in the pending column of my student bill?

Pending items listed on the student bill represents anticipated financial aid that has not yet been credited (reducing charges) to the student account. Pending items are normal at the start of each semester due to certain disbursement timing rules. If you have items pending on your student bill after the first month of classes, you should investigate these items with the financial aid office as to why the items have not been disbursed on to your account. You may need further action in order to be eligible to receive the funds.

Why is my work study award not reflected on my student bill?

Work study funds are allocated to students to work in the university work study program. Each student, once employed, is paid directly for hours worked. Therefore, this award is not used to reduce tuition, room/board and fees. However, students can elect to have their earnings directly deposited to the student tuition account by contacting the payroll office.
