Develop a "Long" List of All the Majors You Should Explore

  • Search for Majors.
  • Seek input from family, friends, teachers, etc.
  • Meet with your academic advisor.
  • Visit the Career Development Center in Miley Hall or online.
  • Explore "What Can I Do With This Major?".

Gather Preliminary Information

  • Read about majors. Review the Advising Guides of potential majors.
  • Talk to faculty and students in that major.
  • See degree requirements in the Salve Regina University Undergraduate Catalog.
  • What is the length and structure of the major?
  • Does the major have any special admissions requirements?
  • What are the career opportunities for someone with this major?
  • Visit the Career Development Center in Miley Hall to explore the resource library.

Evaluate Your "Long" List

  • Eliminate majors you are 100% sure you should.
  • Meet with your advisor.

Narrow Your Choice to a "Short" List

  • Based on evaluation results, choose which majors you will explore further.
  • Narrow your choices to 3-4 majors.

Gather More Detailed Information

  • Review degree requirements for majors on your "short" list.
  • Read course descriptions for these majors.
  • Meet with advisors, professors, and other students in these major departments.
  • Meet with people working in potential career fields.
  • Conduct more research in the Career Development Center.
  • Register for courses in the majors you are considering.
