The Office of Academic Advising offers students assistance in planning their programs of study. While it remains students' responsibility to read, understand and fulfill the University's academic requirements indicated in the Undergraduate Catalog, advisers can help with the following: Discussing academic issues, including contributing factors to academic difficulty; exploring and declaring majors and minors; adjusting course schedules; reviewing graduation requirements; taking leaves of absence or withdrawing from the university; and transferring credits to Salve Regina. If we can't help you with something, we can refer you to those who can.

Academic Development Center

The Academic Development Center assists students who want to enhance their academic performance. The center offers individual and group tutoring in a variety of subject areas by appointment. The center also works with students in all phases of the writing process by appointment or during drop-in hours. The services at the ADC are free of charge to Salve Regina students.

The Office of Career Development plays an active role in preparing students for the job market. The office offers career counseling, testing, student employment opportunities and assistance with internships, on-campus recruiting, employment leads for full and part-time work, Internet and company research information, on and off campus job fairs, van transportation to job fairs, interviewing techniques, shadowing, complete resume service, two one-credit career-life planning courses, and graduate school search assistance.

Mercy Center for Spiritual Life

The staff of the Mercy Center for Spiritual Life are available to students who need spiritual support and encouragement in times of transition and redirection. With a focus on one's belief system, guidance is provided for those students who have a desire to grow in the true knowledge of self. In a safe and affirming environment students can reach a more integrated way of life to enhance academic pursuits.

The following services are offered by Counseling Services: Individual counseling, group counseling, consultations with faculty and staff, referral services, special programs, crisis intervention and community referrals.

Reference librarians are at the library to work with you on your research needs. There are several ways to contact them.

  • Visit the Reference Desk or call (401) 341-2289 to ask a question.
  • Set up an appointment with a reference librarian to help you find the information you need.
  • Send a question by e-mail to referen@salve.edu.
  • Or try our new Virtual Reference - AskHelin is a virtual reference service offered by the HELIN Library Consortium. Building on HELIN's long tradition of collaboration and resource sharing, librarians at eight of the HELIN libraries are offering the Rhode Island academic community real-time, online reference. Faculty, students and staff at any of the HELIN universities and colleges may ask questions via the Internet and a librarian will be available to answer instantly. Chat services are available Sunday through Thursday 3-10 p.m.

The Writing Center

The Writing Center utilizes undergraduate peer writing assistants who are trained to help students in all areas of writing, including: gathering ideas, locating sources, organizing, developing, revising, and editing. Peer writing assistants work with students in all undergraduate academic majors and are available during walk-in hours and by appointment.
