NEWPORT, R.I. – Suzanne Delle, assistant professor of theatre arts and artistic director of the Casino Theatre, will present “Peter Brook: Re-Imagining Shakespeare with student performances” on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 4 p.m. in McKillop Library.
The presentation is free and open to the public. McKillop Library is located on Ochre Point Avenue on the Salve Regina campus.
Brook, the subject of her presentation, is known throughout the world for his pioneering work as an innovative and unconventional theatrical director during a career that encompassed more than half of the 20th century.
It is Brook’s seminal 1970 production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” that looms over Salve Regina’s December production of the same title, which is being directed by Delle.
Brook extorted theater artists to understand that all that is needed to make compelling theater is just the actor and the audience. Everything else is extraneous. Brook understood that a modern audience needs a modern retelling to engage fully with all of our senses.
