Mitchell to serve as assistant dean of Arts and Sciences

NEWPORT, R.I. – James Mitchell, associate professor of modern and classical languages, will also serve as assistant dean of Arts and Sciences for the 2012-2013 academic year.

 

In this new position, Mitchell will lead interdisciplinary program development and coordination by planning and presenting advising workshops for faculty, working with Arts and Sciences staff and department chairs to develop and keep current all advising materials and handbooks, and in developing and refining core curriculum assessment processes.

 

Mitchell will also assist the dean and other offices on projects or events in which Arts and Sciences participates or leads, such as undergraduate retention, SRyou and Orientation. He will also work to develop and maintain a vibrant Arts and Sciences web presence.

 
Mitchell joined the Salve Regina faculty as an assistant professor in 2006 following appointments at Florida Sate University and Kenyon College. He has bachelor’s degrees in French and chemistry from Goucher College, and both a master’s degree and doctorate in Romance linguistics from Cornell University.
