Tuesday, September 14, 2010
NEWPORT, R.I. - 2020 Vision, a series of public forums designed to allow local residents to articulate goals for their communities during the next 10 years, will continue at Salve Regina this week and next with sessions focusing on energy/environment and education.

Held in the Young Building, corner of Bellevue and Ruggles avenues, each forum features a keynote speaker and breakout sessions.

Energy/Environment

5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16

What do we want our communities to look like in 10 years? How do we preserve what we have, pollute it less and be more efficient and self-sufficient (and sustainable) consumers and communities?

This session will feature keynote speaker Kenneth Payne, administrator of the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources

Education

5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22

What do schools need to do to prepare our children for jobs, life and the world at large? What should school buildings, classrooms and school districts look like in 10 years? This could include regionalization, consolidation and collaboration, but that will not be the sole focus.

This session will feature keynote speaker Deborah Gist, Rhode Island commissioner of elementary and secondary education.

2020 Vision is sponsored by the Newport Daily News and the Newport County Fund of the Rhode Island Foundation, with support from other organizations including Salve Regina. To reserve a seat for any of the forums, call (401) 427-4048.
