SRU Dance to perform ‘Power Trip’ Nov. 20 & 21

Tuesday, November 02, 2010

NEWPORT, R.I. – SRU Dance, Salve Regina University’s student-run dance organization, will present its fall performance, “Power Trip,” on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 20 and 21 in the Rodgers Recreation Center, 167 Webster St.

Open to the public, Saturday’s performance will begin at 7 p.m. with an admission price of at least a $1 donation to the Andrea Rizzo Foundation. Sunday’s performance will begin at 1 p.m. and admission is $5. At both shows, children young enough to sit on an adult’s lap get in free.

“Power Trip” will include 26 dances ranging from hip hop, jazz, tap, lyrical, Irish step, and ballet. The club boasts over 100 performers dancing to the music of Kayne West, Sarah Bareilles, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, and many more.

Andrea Rizzo was a graduate of Salve Regina who was tragically killed by a drunk driver at age 24. The foundation raises money for children’s cancer research through dance therapy programs and the spring performance raised $1,100 for those causes. Over the summer, SRU Dance raised almost $700 for the Andrea Rizzo Cliff-Walk-A-Thon.

As a childhood cancer survivor, Andrea’s dream was to become a dance therapist. SRU Dance continues to help the foundation make Andrea’s dream come true in children’s centers across the U.S.
