Child & Family’s Maureen Philbin honored during Law Day observance on May 1

NEWPORT, R.I. – Maureen Philbin, senior vice president of network services for Child & Family Services, will be the featured speaker during Salve Regina’s 13th annual Law Day observance to be held Tuesday, May 1 at 5:30 p.m. in Bazarsky Lecture Hall, located in O’Hare Academic Center on Ochre Point Avenue.

 

Presented by Salve Regina’s administration of justice department, the ceremony is free and open to the public. In addition to Philbin’s remarks and honorary induction into Alpha Phi Sigma national criminal justice honor society, the ceremony will include the presentation of the McGarry Memorial Scholarship, the Outstanding Intern Awards, and undergraduate inductions into Alpha Phi Sigma.

 

The celebration kicks off with refreshments at 5 p.m. in the lobby of O’Hare Academic Center.

 

Philbin graduated from Salve Regina in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in administration of justice. She went on to earn her master’s degree in education and counseling from Providence College in 2004.

 

She began her career at Child & Family in 1991 as junior residential counselor in a group home for teenage girls. Over the next 17 years Philbin worked as direct care staff, outreach counselor, program manager, program director and vice president of residential services before being

promoted to senior vice president of network services in 2008.

 

Philbin is responsible for the overall planning, direction and leadership of the Rhode Island Care Management Network (RICMN), a statewide system of care that oversees the service delivery of 500 families open to the RI department of Children, youth and Families she develops and maintains the quality of practice and operation, provides supervision and oversight of all Network Partners, coordinates and directs a budget of $19 million, and monitors expenditures and contract compliance.

 

She chairs the RICMN Operations team, comprised of the equity and Operational Partners and agency directors, which oversees the RICMN’s daily functions including all client and family treatment decisions. She also leads a cadre of experienced RICMN directors who are responsible for organizing, monitoring, and directing the different RICMN operational areas. Philbin is currently a subcommittee member of education for youth in the Care of dCyF; and an advisory board member of the Rhode Island Higher education assistance authority, Rhode Island Foster Parents association (asPIRe), and the Philip E. Philbin adult Learning school. She received the 2011 alumni achievement award from Salve Regina.

 

Sophomore Jacqueline Souther will be presented with the Joseph J. McGarry ’97 Memorial Scholarship, and Outstanding Intern Awards will be presented to seniors Christopher Blount and Matthew Capone, and junior Jessica Long.

 

Fifteen undergraduate students will be inducted into Alpha Phi Sigma, including seniors Rachel Basset and Bethany Dolock, and juniors Ashley Bendiksen, Emily Daugherty, Wendy DeLuca, Stephanie Ferraiolo, Anthony Hannon, Jessica Long, Tram-Anh Nguyen and Jeremy Ventura.

 

Law Day was established in 1958 by President Dwight Eisenhower to strengthen the nation's heritage of liberty, justice and equality under law.
