NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University will host the 2012 Rhode Island State Championship inter-collegiate sailing regatta this weekend, Nov. 3-4, at Fort Adams State Park.
The event, which is being dubbed the ‘Sister Esther Open’ in honor of the university’s sailing team founder and long-time inspiration Sister Esther Whalen, will feature racing from two dozen collegiate sailing teams representing the New England Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association Conference. Racing begins in 420s each morning at 10 a.m.
Collegiate teams racing this weekend include Roger Williams, Tufts, Boston College, Brown, Connecticut, Vermont, University of Rhode Island, Bowdoin, Coast Guard, Northeastern, Providence College, Maine Maritime, University of New Hampshire, University of Connecticut, Bates, Wesleyan, Massachusetts Maritime, Middlebury, Mitchell College, McGill and Sacred Heart.
