NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina's Department of Performing Arts has several holiday concerts on tap, including performances from the University's choral groups along with the Newport Community Symphonic Band and the Newport Country Orchestra.
Christmas choral concert
The university chorus, madrigals, and men’s and women’s a cappella will present ‘Hallelujah!’ a Christmas choral concert, on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9 and 10 in Ochre Court.
Open to the public, performances will be presented at 8 p.m. each night. General admission is $8, while students and senior citizens will be charged $5. Ochre Court, the university’s main administration building, is located at 100 Ochre Point Ave.
Directed by Don St. Jean, the ensembles will feature Schubert’s “Mass in G,” as well as other seasonal favorites.
Newport Community Symphonic Band
The holiday band concert, featuring performances from the Newport Community Symphonic Band and the flue and jazz ensembles, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11 in the Casino Theatre, Freebody Street.
Directed by Peter Davis, the concert will feature selections from Rossano Galante, Elliot del Borgo, Sergei Prokofiev, Claude Smith, Stephen Bulla and Leroy Anderson. Tickets will be available at the door.
Newport County Orchestra
The Newport County Orchestra, composed of Salve Regina students, members of the local community and advanced high school students, will present its holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13 in Ochre Court.
Directed by Joseph Ceo, the concert will feature the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, Johann Christian Bach, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and Leroy Anderson. Tickets will be available at the door.
